Biography
Dr Ibrahim Simiyu, is a part-time science writer for MwanaSayansi & MedicoPRESS. He uses science communication skills he obtained through ResearchCOM training to tell stories from science research. He is registered medical doctor and public health specialist passionate about child health, health systems strengthening, digital health, non-communicable disease management and advocacy. He has over eight years of work experience with the Ministry of Health, national and international NGOs managing different clinical and public health projects in Tanzania. He is familiar with the Tanzanian healthcare system structure and managing different donor-funded projects (USAID/PEPFAR, CDC etc). Dr Simiyu earned his medical degree from the Muhimbili University of Health and Allied Sciences in Dar es Salaam Tanzania and his MSc in International Public Health from the Liverpool School of Tropical Medicine in the United Kingdom. His work record with different health stakeholders advocating for child health, HIV/AIDS, and non-communicable diseases earned him the Chevening Scholarship by the Foreign and Commonwealth Office for his MSc studies in the United Kingdom. His MSc studies focused on health research methods, quality improvement in global child health, health promotion, planning and management of health systems, systematic reviews, and health in humanitarian emergencies.
